Edinburgh Engagement Photography That Feels Like You

Edinburgh engagement photographer with couple on Calton Hill

Your engagement photoshoot will be fun and relaxed.

Are you after some beautiful portraits of the two of you now that the engagement is official? Or are you secretly planning to propose and want photographs to capture the moment they say ‘Yes!’?

Your engagement session should feel like a relaxed walk with your favourite person, with me documenting your connection, laughter, and love.

My name is Armands, and I’m an Edinburgh engagement photographer with over a decade of experience photographing couples.

Favourite Engagement Photo Locations in Edinburgh

1. Calton Hill – City views and variety in every direction.

Calton Hill is probably one of my favourite spots for engagement portraits. You have a great variety of backgrounds, like Edinburgh city, Arthur Seat or just simply sit down in grass and goof around with each other.

Gives so many opportunities to have a variety of interesting portraits.

I have whole guide on locations around Calton Hill here.

2. Holyrood Park – Open space and Arthur’s Seat as your backdrop

Open green space and lots of opportunities for beautiful portraits. You have either Arthur’s Seat as a backdrop or Calton Hill.

Love this location as you can walk away from people and just have a quiet corner. Those who would like a little challenge, we can do a little climb to have nice city views.

Great place to grab a picnic blanket and sit down for more cuddly portraits.

3. Stockbridge – Quirky, stylish.

A little quirky corner of Edinburgh. You have probably one of the most Instagrammable streets in Edinburgh – Circus Lane. Can get a few nice shots there.

I also like visiting the little park nearby. It is a short walk, but very often very quiet there. You have some privacy and it’s a great backdrop for portraits.

Once we’re done with photos, you can make a short walk across to Dean Village. If we skip Circus lane, we possibly could make a trek across together for a few more portraits.

4. Botanic Gardens

Plenty of little corners to hide away for more intimate engagement portraits. As expected, you have a load of green areas, and it’s perfect for garden lovers.

It is also great for those who just want to sneak away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and just chill. Sit down, have a nice moment with your other half and have a good time.

I must mention that it does close, I think around 8pm, so you might want to check that before you visit.

Edinburgh Arthur’s Seat Proposal

“Armands was a fantastic Photographer! I hired him for my proposal on top of Arthur’s seat and he was very on top of it, literally! After I proposed (which was captured beautifully) he revealed himself to us and we had a lovely chat. Afterwards he had us pose around Arthur’s seat. We did a photo shoot for around 45min to an hour and he came up with lots of great ideas for shots that we really loved. Fantastic photographer and a really nice guy! A+”

Engagement Photography FAQs

Once we have agreed on the date, you will pay half the amount to reserve the date. The second half would be paid once the photos are ready.

I always recommend something pretty plain and solid colours. You don’t need to be matchy matchy, but similar tones work. However, saying that if you would like to wear a bright flower dress to match your personality, I will be happy to see that as well :)
Be ready to run, lie down and have fun, so dress comfortably.

Absolutely. This session is all about your story.

Travelling to Edinburgh for an engagement photography session?

Please do get in touch if you’re planning your engagement photo session to coincide with a romantic trip to Edinburgh. While I work with many local couples, I am also very happy to hear from couples who are based elsewhere around the county.

Perhaps you are planning to get engaged while visiting Edinburgh? Or maybe you just have a love of our beautiful city and want to celebrate your recent engagement with pictures to remember your trip here?

International enquiries are also very welcome! I have photographed many newly engaged couples from as far afield as Hong Kong, Japan and China, and love helping you document your engagement in a fun and creative way while you are in Edinburgh.

Perhaps you want to do something daring and extravagant? Amazing! I really enjoy helping your creative vision become a reality, whether you want to wear a full-glamour wedding dress or visit prominent city attraction spots.

If this is you, here are a few things you might need to consider and your photographer to confirm before booking:

– Do you need permission to be photographed in your dress at certain locations you planning?
– How will you move from location to location?
– Are you planning to do changes for him or her?
– Is your photographer good at posing couples in high-fashion style sessions?
– Is it possible to do a session somewhere else in Scotland, like the Highlands?

These are just a few considerations for you to think about. I’m here to help and provide advice. Please do contact me with any questions you may have.
